The International Expansion

Meet Mishal
In the past I have done work for sport and non-sport organizations with a focus on digital marketing and communications. These roles include my time as a community management intern for Sleepopolis and a Communications intern for Michigan Athletics. Most recently I learned about the brand-side of sponsorships via an internship with United Airlines. On campus I work on the yearbook but am also a part of The Michigan Daily Newspaper and Phi Sigma Pi Honors fraternity! My goal in the future is to do brand management for a league, team or brand!
This project represents a culmination of my two main areas of professional focus: sports and communications. My two experiences studying abroad in Ecuador and Italy/Switzerland in addition to my previous international / cultural experiences have really ignited an interest in developing U.S. sport internationally. My recent coursework in sport tourism, organizational strategy and sport real estate also significantly contributed to my knowledge and interest in this topic.
The international expansion

About the Maloy Excellence in writing
Bernard Pat Maloy served as a professor at the School of Kinesiology with a focus in legal and public policy issues in sport business. This award is only open to Sport Management undergraduate students.

Some requirements of the paper written for the award are as follows:
-
Address a current policy issue affecting access to sport, regulation, and/or legal issues in sport, or the business operation of sport
-
Include a body/discussion in which the topic is supported with relevant and credible research
-
Include a final section in which you discuss the relevance of your topic to present day and/or the future of sport; in other words, what is the effect or impact of your chosen topic on sport?

I chose the topic of international expansion because of both my personal interest in the topic and its clear implications for the world of sport. I previously applied for this award as a freshman, writing about the ethical issue of requiring vaccinations, particularly COVID-19 vaccinations, for athletes. I am the only freshman to have applied for the award. I am still waiting to hear back on whether I won this year's award but regardless I am proud of my dedication into my writing.
